Publication Date: 2026-10-14

KOMATSU's Newberry Manufacturing Operation (NMO) in Newberry, South Carolina, has celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the company's North American manufacturing history. The celebration took place on October 2, 2026, bringing together employees, dealer partners, local officials and community members to recognize the facility's achievements and continued contribution to the regional economy.

Since opening in 2001, the Newberry facility has manufactured more than 53,000 machines, reflecting its long-term commitment to manufacturing quality, teamwork and continuous improvement. As part of the anniversary celebration, KOMATSU showcased equipment produced at the plant and unveiled a special 25th anniversary edition of the WA485-11 wheel loader, one of the facility's flagship products.

A Quarter Century of Manufacturing Growth

When the Newberry Manufacturing Operation first opened, it employed just 22 people and occupied approximately 200,000 square feet. Today, the facility has grown to approximately 250 employees and more than 300,000 square feet, demonstrating its continued development over the past 25 years.

The plant initially focused on manufacturing backhoe loaders before expanding its production portfolio to include wheel loaders and forklifts. This evolution has enabled KOMATSU to respond to changing market requirements and strengthen its ability to serve customers in the North American construction, utility and equipment rental sectors.

As KOMATSU's fifth major manufacturing facility in North America when it opened, Newberry has played an important role in bringing equipment closer to customers and supporting the company's regional manufacturing capabilities.

Celebrating People, Quality and Continuous Improvement

The anniversary event highlighted the people behind the facility's success, recognizing the craftsmanship, dedication and collaboration of its workforce. The special WA485-11 wheel loader unveiled during the celebration served as a symbol of the plant's manufacturing achievements and its ongoing commitment to product quality.

According to Rod Bull, CEO of KOMATSU North America, the milestone reflects the dedication and skills of employees who have helped transform the facility from a small operation producing backhoe loaders into a diverse manufacturing center.

Beyond production, the Newberry facility has maintained a strong relationship with the local community through its participation in regional initiatives and community activities. Its growth reflects not only increased manufacturing capacity but also a long-standing commitment to local engagement.

Looking Ahead

As the Newberry Manufacturing Operation enters its next chapter, KOMATSU continues to emphasize manufacturing excellence, employee teamwork and continuous improvement. The facility's 25-year history demonstrates how sustained investment, an evolving product portfolio and a skilled workforce can support long-term manufacturing development.

With more than 53,000 machines produced since 2001, the Newberry plant remains an important part of KOMATSU's North American operations, supporting the equipment needs of construction and other industries while building on its established manufacturing experience.
